Importance of patterns

Patterns are more than a math skill.  Understanding patterns allows children to make predictions about what should come next.  Look for patterns around you such as stripes on a shirt.  Reinforce the ones they notice and point out ones they haven’t noticed. Create patterns with your child and encourage them to create their own using everyday objects around them such as crayons, cars, beads etc. You can also create patterns using movements such as clap, clap, jump or sounds such as loud, soft, soft, or clap slow then fast.  Most of all have fun exploring this skill with your child.
