Literacy-Scarecrows!

By | October 13, 2017

We had another fantastic reading day!
First, I would like to congratulate everyone. No one forgot their sharing item! The children were SO excited to speak in front of the group today about their special things and they did a wonderful job. We are working on voice volume, looking at our audience, language/wording, staying on topic and asking good questions. They are catching on quickly! Be sure to remind them to bring another item next Thursday!
Our theme today was scarecrows and we had a great discussion about what we knew about them and their purpose. We sang a song about scarecrows (The lyrics to the song will be included in their folders) that had movements to go along with them.
Our story was called “The Little Scarecrow Boy” and was written by Margaret Wise Brown (author of the famous “Goodnight Moon”). For snack we made “Scarecrow crunch” and the recipe will be included in their folders.
Each child created their own “shape scarecrow” and they are adorable. They worked so hard on them!
I have to mention again, what a lovely group of children this is. I am loving my Thursdays!
